BIDDEFORD — Wake up with coffee and a fresh perspective about an on-going political subject in a friendly and non-judmental environment, at the Make Shift Coffee House hosted by the Univeristy of New England.
The University of New England is hosting a Make Shift Coffee House event, Reflections on Race in a Sea of Whiteness, where people with differing political views on race can meet and learn from each other.
There will be coffee, food, live music, and this Make Shift Coffee House will be moderated by Craig Freshley of Good Group Decisions. Craig will manage a civil exchange of ideas as a neutral third party.
This will be held on Thursday, April 19, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the St Francis Room, Ketchum Library, University of New England, 11 Beach Hills Rd. Biddeford, Maine.
At the Make Shift Coffee House, questions are asked such as; How has your race impacted your access to resources, education and/or income? If it hasn’t, why do you think that is? How do you think your racial identity plays a role in your everyday life?
All are welcome to have a voice and to hear what’s important to the other side. It’s not about judging right or wrong or good or bad, it’s about understanding each other’s perspectives.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
