
The snow is falling and most area schools systems have canceled school for Thursday already. Many businesses have also announced they will be closed due to weather and some town have announced warming facilities in the event of power outages.
According to a forecast map posted by the U.S. National Weather Service, a winter storm warning for the Midcoast is in place until 4 p.m. Thursday. Heavy snow is forecast and travel conditions will be “difficult to impossible, including during the morning commute on Thursday.”
Commuters on the road should expect a significant reduction in visibility at times, the warning notes. The Maine Emergency Management Agency asks people not to travel during the worst of the storm unless they must.
The following is a list of some of the local closings and cancellations Thursday due to the storm and additions are expected.
School cancellations:
• Brunswick School Department
• Regional School Unit 1
• Regional School Unit 2
• Regional School Unit 5
• School Administrative District 75
• West Bath School
Libraries closed Thursday
• Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick
• Patten Free Library in Bath
Muncipal facilities
• Bath — city office closed, trash and recycling moved to Friday, compost pickup moved to Saturday, CityBus suspending regular routes and BIW run
• Bowdoinham — Recycling Barn closed Thursday, curbside pickup moved to Saturday
• Brunswick — town office closed until 10:30 a.m. or weather dependent, landfill closed, curbside collection rescheduled for Saturday
• Durham — trash pickup moving to Saturday
• Lisbon — town office, transfer station, library and MTM Center are closed Thursday
• Topsham —Town Hall and solid waste facility closed until at least 2 p.m.
• Woolwich — town office closed, to reopen 9 a.m. Friday
Parking bans:
• Bath — in place until March 15 (parking limited to half hour on city streets and parking lots midnight to 6 a.m.)
• Brunswick — currently in place until Friday at 7 a.m.
• Freeport — currently in place until Thursday at 7 p.m.
• Lisbon — currently in place until noon Friday
• Richmond — currently in place to 6 a.m. Thursday
• Topsham — currently in place until Friday at 6 p.m.
Businesses/Organizations:
• All Bath Iron Work second shift facilities will remain open Wednesday but third shift is canceled for all facilities. Essential personnel should report.
• Mid Coast Medical Group practices and the Mid Coast Walk-In Clinic at Brunswick Station will be closed Thursday
• Bath Area Family YMCA closed all day Thursday
State of Maine
• Legislature closed Thursday
• District, Superior and Supreme courthouses closed Thursday
• State offices will be closed
• The Bureau of Motor Vehicles cancelled all driver license examinations scheduled for Thursday
