State Sen. Eloise Vitelli, DArrowsic, announced the details of Maine’s three-year transportation infrastructure work plan, and what it means for the state and region. The plan is released annually with an outline of the Maine Department of Transportation’s strategy for road, bridge and other transportation projects throughout the state.

“Our infrastructure is vital to Maine’s economy and to the safety of the public in general,” said Vitelli. “I hope that this outline is helpful to local officials and anyone interested in upcoming projects in the area.”

According to the MDOT, the work plan includes more than $2.3 billion worth of construction and maintenance, of which $511.1 million is scheduled for 604 capital projects in 2018. The 3 year plan estimates MDOT will invest in 229 miles of highway construction; 1,128 miles of pavement preservation; 1,800 miles of light capital paving for roads and highways; 240 spot and safety improvements; and 260 bridge construction projects.

The following breakdown is the planned capital and maintenance work for some communities in the region in 2018:

Bicycle/pedestrian improvements

• Bath: Beginning at Crawford Drive and extending south 0.41 of a mile, plus 0.02 of a mile for divided highway then beginning at Oak Grove Avenue and extending west 0.15 of a mile to Old Brunswick Road. Beginning at the train station on Commercial Street in Bath and extending north 0.13 of a mile

• Topsham/Brunswick: Beginning at the Swinging Bridge, to Mill Street, Bow Street and Cabot Street and extending 0.32 of a mile to the Frank J. Wood Bridge

Bridge work

• Richmond: Protective coating on Interstate 95 bridges from Richmond to Waterville

• Bowdoinham: Replacing the southern joint and reinforcing the back wall on Brooklyn Bridge over the Cathance River located 0.04 of a mile south of River Road. Repairing the curb and installing bridge rail and guard rail on Two Bridges West and Two Bridges East over the Cathance River and West Branch Denham Stream, located 0.14 of a mile east of Ridge Road. Replacing the southern joint and reinforcing the back wall on Brooklyn Bridge over the Cathance River, located 0.04 of a mile south of River Road.

• Topsham: Installing approach guardrail and Michigan shoe rail to bridge attachment plates to the four corners of the Muddy River Bridge over the Muddy River, located 0.28 of a mile south of Middlesex Road.

• Woolwich: Bridge painting on Nequasset Bridge over Nequasset Lake Outlet, located 0.14 of a mile northeast of Nequasset Road

Custodial maintenance

• West Bath: Vegetation management along Route 196 beginning at the intersection of Route 201 extending south to the intersection of Route 1, and Route 1 beginning at the intersection of Mill Street extending north 8.00 miles to High Street.

Department building and lot maintenance:

• Richmond: Installing new shingles on the Maine DOT maintenance lots salt dome, located 0.10 of a mile south of the Route 201 intersection.

• Topsham: Converting maintenance buildings over to LED lighting at the Topsham and Gray maintenance lots

Drainage maintenance

• Bowdoin: Ditching beginning at the Route 125 intersection in Bowdoin, extending north 3.00 miles

• Dresden: Replacing instream culvert located 0.13 of a mile north of Popp Road. Replacing culvert located 0.13 of a mile north of Courthouse Road. Replacing a culvert located 0.06 of a mile north of the Day Lane.

• Georgetown: Ditching and replacing ten culverts on Route 127 in Georgetown beginning 0.13 of a mile north of Bay Point Road extending north 1.98 miles to Seguinland Road

• Phippsburh: Cleaning under guard rails beginning at the town line extending south 13.25 miles to Sea Street.

• Richmond: Ditching beginning at the Route 201 intersection, extending 5.68 miles east to the Route 197 intersection. Replacing an instream culvert located 0.15 of a mile southwest of the Route 197 intersection.

Highway work, light paving

• West Bath: Work on a large culvert located 0.31 of a mile south of Austin Road. Safety and spot improvements at the intersection of State Road and New Meadows Road/ Fosters Point Road.

• Bath: Paving beginning at the Bath town line and extending west 2 miles to the Brunswick town line.

• Arrowsic/Georgetown/ Woolwich: Paving beginning at the town line and extending south 10.16 miles, spanning the towns.

• Topsham: Paving beginning at Route 201 and extending north 3.41 miles.

Bowdoin/Bowdoinham/Richmond: Paving beginning at Route 201 and extending north 9.48 miles, spanning the towns

• Bowdoin: Paving beginning at Route 125 and extending north .80 of a mile.

• Dresden: Paving beginning at Route 27 and extending south 15.2 miles to Route 127 in Woolwich. Paving beginning at Route 128 and extending east 0.54 of a mile to Route 127

• Woolwich/Dresden: Paving beginning at Route 1 in Woolwich and extending north 14.69 miles to Route 27 in Dresden.

• Georgetown: Paving beginning .14 of a mile north of Griffiths Head Road and extending north 2.11 miles.

• Richmond: Paving beginning .77 of a mile east of Route 138 and extending east .64 of a mile. Paving beginning .06 of a mile east of Williams Street i and extending east 0.48 of a mile to Route 24.

Surface and Base Maintenance

• Woolwich/Dresden: Milling pavement in preparation for Light Capital Paving (LCP) on Route 127 in Dresden extending south 14.7 miles to the Route 1 intersection in Woolwich
