SANFORD – The opening of Sanford’s new ice rink in Central Park is on hold until sometime next week while the city awaits new parts from the vendor.
A dedication originally planned for 5 p.m. Friday is also delayed.
Sherry Lord of the Sanford 250th Celebration Committee said that the hoses that connect the rink’s chiller to the surface aren’t functioning properly and will be replaced.
Once the new hoses arrive, they’ll be installed. Then comes a lengthy pressure test and additional work.
“With fingers crossed, it should be up and running next week,” Lord said.
The rink was financed through a grant from the William Oscar Emery Trust and private donations to help mark Sanford’s 250th anniversary of incorporation in 1768.
A number of events are planned throughout the year, beginning with a ceremony at 5 p.m. Feb. 27, the anniversary day of incorporation, in Central Park.
