HARPSWELL
State fire marshal investigators say a fire that killed two pets and destroyed a mobile home in Harpswell early this morning was arson.
According to the state fire marshal’s office, Bradley Wallace, 30, was taken to the Cumberland County Jail after being treated for burns and cuts at Mid Coast Hospital. He has been charged with arson in connection to the fire that destroyed the mobile home he was renting at 92 Sunset Cove on Great Island.
Investigators say the fire started in his bedroom about 6 a.m., likely from paper products that were set on fire.
Three other people spending the night escaped the fire without injury. They were alerted to the fire by Wallace, after they also smelled smoke. However Wallace’s two dogs died in the fire.
Four fire marshal investigators were assisted by Cumberland County deputies at the fire scene.
