TOPSHAM — The Mt. Ararat Middle School eighth-grade girls basketball team improved to 4-0 with a 60-29 victory over Lewiston on Monday.
The Eagles got out to another quick start, using pressure defense and quick baskets to start on a 12-2 run. Mt. Ararat finished the quarter leading 20-7, with Lillie Singleton scoring eight of her 14 points.
The Eagles found themselves in foul trouble in the second quarter, but the bench played really well, scoring nine of the team’s 11 points, led by Barrett Thiboutot with five points. Mt. Ararat led 31-20 at the break.
Strong post play by Emily Bontatibus, who scored eight of her game-high 15 points in the third, helped the eagles extend the lead to 45-26 heading to the fourth.
Mt. Ararat allowed just three points the rest of the way.
Lewiston was paced by Brook Glambra’s 10 points and eight from Khali Lever.
The Eagles will close out the first half of the season at Auburn today.
