VASSALBORO
The Mt. Ararat High School golf team rode a strong showing from Caleb Manuel en route to winning the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference qualifier on Natanis Golf Club’s Arrowhead Course on Tuesday.
Manuel shot a 4-under par 68 to capture top honors, leading the Eagles to a team score of 328 on a hot and humid day.
Mt. Ararat won by nine shots over runner-up Lewiston, while Edward Little and Messalonskee tied for third at 340. Camden Hills (343) also qualified for the State Class A Championship, which takes place Oct. 7.
Individually, Manuel led all qualifiers. He finished six shots ahead of runner-up Cole Anderson of Camden Hills.
Also qualifying for the individual championship, to be held Oct. 14, was Mt. Ararat’s Will Kavanaugh, who fired an 81. Teammates Cade Charron (88), Blair Kopp (91) and Ben Hickson (96) also competed on Tuesday.
Brunswick missed out on the team championship, shooting a team score of 375. However, Dragons Sam Sharpe (82) and Jack Bates (84) qualified for the individual championship.
Stephanie Rodrigue of Lewiston won the girls flight, firing a 4-over par 76.
