FREEPORT — During the month of September, Gritty’s is helping to raise money for the “Go Big for Hunger” charity.
Go Big for Hunger was founded in spring 2016 by lifelong Mainer Greg Martens. Martens decided to implement his creative, local-level solution to fight childhood hunger in Maine, where currently one in four children are food insecure.
Using his ties to the restaurant community, Martens decided to invite restaurant owners to join the “Go Big” campaign by adding a line to guest checks, inviting customers to add $2 or more to the bill.
Go Big for Hunger is an all-volunteer effort, where every donation goes directly to supporting frontline feeding of kids and building the network that’s required to sustain the fight against childhood hunger.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
