A pivotal year for the University of Maine men’s basketball program won’t be without considerable challenges from both within the America East and beyond.
The Black Bears’ 2017-18 regular-season schedule was released Tuesday, beginning with a non-conference slate that includes opponents from the Atlantic Coast Conference, Big 12, Big East as well as with three opponents from the Atlantic 10.
The 15-game non-conference slate, which includes home games against Boston University (Nov. 22), the University of Maine at Presque Isle (Dec. 5), Dartmouth (Dec. 8) and the University of Maine at Machias (Dec. 10) leads up to the team’s America East opener at Stony Brook on Jan. 3.
UMaine’s America East home opener is Jan. 10 against Maryland-Baltimore County.
Six of the non-conference matchups are so-called “guarantee games.” Guarantee games this year are at Boston College, Texas Tech, Georgetown, St. Joseph’s of Pennsylvania, Fordham and UMass.

We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
