JEFFERSON — Midcoast Conservancy will host the seventh annual Race Through the Woods at Hidden Valley Nature Center on Oct. 1.

For runners who are inspired by the tranquility of running on rustic trails deep in the Maine woods and enjoy the challenge of highly varied terrain, where slippery roots or loose rocks demand concentration and focus, this is the race to run. Explore the exciting mix of single and double-track trails over rolling terrain in this challenging racecourse.

Racers will have two course options to choose from — a 13-mile half-marathon and a 5.5-mile race. Both courses present their own challenges, but they both navigate through deep forests and beautiful trails.

This race is open to beginners, novices and experienced trail runners alike. The atmosphere is not competitive and there is a great spirit of comradery. After the race everyone is encouraged to stick around and enjoy a bon fire, hot cider or a beer at Oxbow Brewery and a lunch of corn chowder, sides and dessert. Prizes will be awarded for different age classes at the end of the day.

Kids 10 and under can participate in a fun obstacle race starting at about 10:30 a.m. Each racer will receive a ribbon and an official HVNC patch.
