Bail was set at $500 following Jenna Johnson’s arrest on the charge on Saturday night, said York County Sheriff William King.
King in a statement issued Sunday said Johnson was charged with the crime after deputies were called to a domestic disturbance on Dow Way at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday.
“Upon arrival, deputies determined that the domestic disturbance was between two sisters,” King wrote. “Further investigation found evidence that one of the parties of the domestic disturbance, Jenna Johnson, 28, of Waterboro, may have struck her daughter.”
King on Monday said the infant showed evidence of bruising. He said the child was placed with other family members, and that Maine Department of Health and Human Services was notified.
Johnson remained incarcerated at York County Jail in lieu of $500 bail following her arrest Saturday night. A clerk at Springvale District Court said she was released on bail on Sunday.
