PEOPLE PLUS held its annual Volunteer Appreciation event last week at its center on Union Street in Brunswick. More than 60 guests enjoyed Portland Pie pizza and dessert treats, received reusable shopping bags filled with giveaways and were entertained by the Porch Time quartet of the Nor'easters barbershop chorus. Nearly 200 volunteers support more than 50 health, wellness, technology, education, creative, social and outreach programs each month at the People Plus. Also recognized at the event were the Brunswick Area Spectrum Generations volunteers for their Meals on Wheels and Money Minders programs. Meals on Wheels volunteer drivers delivered 30,644 meals to area residents last year. Each year, People Plus honors several volunteers. Top awards this year went to Vince McDermott, 2017 Volunteer of the Year; Charles Evans, 2017 Board Trustee of the Year; and Winnie Chan and David Forkey, Brunswick Area Teen Center Volunteers of the Year. People Plus also acknowledged several other outstanding volunteers from the past year with awards.
