BRUNSWICK
A “Gala Bike Roundup” will be held on July 15 from 9 a.m. to noon at two Brunswick churches — Good Shepherd Lutheran Church at 336 Maine St. and St. Charles Borromeo Church at 132 McKeen St.
This event, suggested by Catholic Charities, the primary provider for resettlement services to refugees in Maine, will offer local residents an opportunity to donate their used adult bicycles in good working condition, as well as adult helmets, locks, and lights, to assist many newly arrived refugees on their road to self-sufficiency. Transportation to new jobs, appointments, or food shopping is one of the many challenges they must overcome upon arrival in the United States.
The project is a combined service effort of the two church communities in their observance of Reformation 500. Free refreshments will be available at both sites.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
