HARTFORD, Conn.
The Portland Sea Dogs (13-8) made it four straight Eastern League wins to finish out a six-game road trip, defeating the Hartford Yard Goats (8-15), 5-1, Wednesday morning at Dunkin Donuts Park.
Portland’s three-game road sweep was its first since last June at Richmond.
Kevin McAvoy (1-2) earned his first win of the season, firing six strong innings on five hits, one run, one walk and six strikeouts. The lone run came in the first inning on a run-scoring double by Drew Weeks. McAvoy was perfect in three of six innings, notching his second quality start of the year.
Portland took the lead for good in the fifth inning against reliever Troy Neiman (0-1). Danny Bethea tied the game with a run-scoring single to right field. Danny Mars blooped a two-run single to left for the game-winning hit.
Portland takes on Reading in a five-game homestand beginning tonight at 6 p.m. at Hadlock Field.
