BIDDEFORD — Richard E. Manning, 87, of Biddeford died Friday, April 26, 2017 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough following a long illness.

He was born May 16, 1929 in Lewiston a son of Charles F. and Marie (Coady) Manning and was educated in Lewiston, Maine. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from St. Anselm’s College and his master’s degree from Gorham State Teachers College.

On Oct. 12, 1963, he married Mary Lou Judge in St. Mary’s Church in Biddeford.

He served in the United States Air Force from 1951 until 1955 and was stationed in Korea and Japan during his enlistment.

He worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation for two years before becoming a Probation and Parole officer for the State of Maine, retiring after 37 years of service.

He had been a member of St. Mary’s Church, the American Legion, and the Biddeford-Saco Elks Lodge # 1597. He enjoyed reading, traveling, golfing, and gardening his roses.

Richard is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Lou Manning of Biddeford; two sons, Bill Manning of Old Orchard Beach and David Manning of Garden City, New York.

Visiting Hours will be 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford, ME 04005. A funeral service will follow at noon in the West Chapel. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Biddeford.
