A Sacred Trust
There is a little child that dwells within each and every one of us, and it comes to the surface every now and then. Recently the children in my church got up in front of the congregation and offered a little musical prelude. As they sang, “This little light of mine, I’m going to make it shine,” the adults could not resist joining in with the music and the gestures, and the expressions on the faces of the adults were absolutely delightful. For a few minutes we all became like little children. The characteristics of a child are those which we must possess in order to enter the kingdom of God. Children are trusting, imaginative, forgiving, and dependent upon the adults in their world to take care of their needs. They are without intellectual pride and hard worldliness, and we learn from them even as we teach them. We have a clear mandate to make a place for children in the life of the church, and to help them grow in the knowledge of God’s love for all of humankind, and to join with them in shining the light of Christ into the world around us.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
