Beginning on Friday, the Mt. Ararat Stage Company will bring the stage adaptation of the 1980 cult film “Xanadu” to the Orion Performing Arts Center, transforming the auditorium into an ’80s roller disco.
“Xanadu” follows the journey of a magical Greek muse, Kira, who descends from the heavens of Mount Olympus to Venice Beach, California on a quest to inspire a struggling artist named Sonny. When Kira falls in love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous sisters intervene.
Performances of “Xanadu” will occur on Friday at 7:30 p.m, Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Orion Performing Arts Center located at 66 Republic Ave. in Topsham. Tickets range in price from $10-$15, and may be purchased in advance by visiting mtastage.weebly.com, or at the door beginning one hour before curtain. In keeping with the ’80s theme, a unique array of treats and novelty items will be available for sale before and during the production.
