The 52nd annual Maine YMCA state swimming championship is scheduled to be held at the University of Maine at Orono March 3-5.

The Long Reach Swim Club of the Bath Area Family YMCA is the defending champion, edging the Downeast Family Y of Ellsworth last year in the closest state meet in decades. The Bath Y has won 34 state titles since the leagues inception for the 1964- 65 season.

Bath’s first team title was in 1968 under coach Dick Petit. It was in 1980 that head coach Tom MacDonald established LRSC as the one of the states top teams for decades to come. Coach Beth Prelgovisk continued the winning ways, taking team titles in 1981, ’83, ’84 and Æ85. Under current coach Jay Morissette, the team has won 28 team titles, including 26 consecutive.

“There have been several teams over the years that have made runs at us,” said Morissette. “Last year Downeast beat us in a dual meet for our first loss in 25 years and then they got close at the state meet. Downeast and a couple of new teams are making great improvements and will push us to our limits at states.”

Last year’s team not only captured the state title, but went onto finish in 12th place at the national championships.

“That was our highest team finish at nationals. We had so many amazing swims and swimmers that proved we can produce and compete with anyone in the country,” said Morissette.

This year’s state meet begins March 3 with two divisional titles on the line. The 13-14 and 15-and-over girls get things started.

Scheduled to compete for the LRSC 13-14 girls: Vanessa Albert, Grace Bingham, Savanna Burgess, Fionna Cashman, Margaret Chingos, Meghan Clifford, Emma Collins, Emily Galen, Taylor Hemenway, Amanda Jorgensen, Tessa Jorgensen, Emily Martin, Sophie Mason, Margie McLeod, Mallory Palmer, Audrey Pantaz, Mary Parker, Nina Powers, Jac Ribota, Zoe Ruff, Madigan Saunders, Helena Schultz, Katherine Shaughnessy, Cora Spelke, Ella Tycz and Emmylou Varian.

The 15-and-overs are: Sophie Blair, Laura Chavoustie, Teagan Guenther, Haily Harper, Olivia Harper, Talia Jorgensen, Tara Jorgensen, Brittany Kaler, Sophia Kruse, Ella Martin, Zenaide McCarthy, Alexandra Morse, Charity Schultz, Ann Tolan, Leah Totman, Caitlin Tycz, Cara Viele and Delaney Young.

March 4 begins with a combined 9-10 and 11-12 boy age groups.

The 9-10 LRSC boys are: Noah Grondin, Nico Herrera, Otto Hibl, Jonathan Koehler, Joshua Langworthy, Alex Le, Keith Libby, Wyatt Lorrain, Gaffney McDonough, Nathan Minzner, David Mitchell, Keegan Rowe, Anders Savage, Collin Scott, Finn Weafer, Reilly Williams and Sawyer Wright. 11-12 boys are: Tristan Beveridge, Kipp Butts, Caleb Chamberland, Gregory DeMeyer, Cayden Green, Dominic Giovinazzi, Oscar Herrera, Collin Lamb, Andrew Leighton, Lucas Martin, Aidan Saunders, Bradley Vuong, Casey Whittaker and Harrison Whittaker.

Also March 4, the 9-10 girl division competes, with LRSC’s Cambridge Anderson, Olive Beeton, Samantha Butts, Piper Carleton, Claire Charbonneau, Grace Chubbuck, Catherine Clifford, Mayim Feinberg, Layla Fisher, Olivia Gagnon, Isabella Garside, Lydia Giovinazzi, Sophie Gonzalez, Hannah Gustafson, Emma Hart, Ophelia Hibl, Maia Higgins, June Jung, Rachel Kerr, Sadie Levy, Eliza Marco, Katelyn Pratt, Tess Sarna, Claire Sinibaldi, Apple Smith, Grace Tetreault and Grace Whittaker in action.

The final session of the day is the 13-14 and 15-and-older boys. For the 13-14 boys: Andrew Chamberland, Oscar Hennin, Christopher Hole, Nicolas Holland, Joshua Huntsman, Robby Hyde, Devin Lamb, Nathan Levy, Joshua Pratt, Daniel Whitman, Evan Willertz, Caleb Williams, Ciaran Wright and Sam Wright. For the senior boys: Gus Anderson, Tucker Banger, Nicco Bartone, Camden Fitzgerald, Alex Gurney, Max Gurney, Brian Hess, Devin Hoskins, Brandon Johnson, Nathaniel Lay, Zachary Lay, Cameron Marco, Dominic Marco, Henry Raker, Jeremy Vuong, Ben Willertz and Matthew Yost.

March 5 will feature the 8- and-under girls and boys. LRSC will send: Victoria Albert, Charley Carleton, Olivia Colaluca, Remy Cook, Maeve Coughlin, Olivia Craney, Willow Halpin, Ana Kelly, Eliza Levy, Abigail Minzner, Divinity Rivera and Astrid Wright. On the boys side: Brady Chubbuck, Jack DeMeyer, Rick Wyatt Jones, Kessel Lynn, William Maher, Gus Mason, Chase Ober, Wylder Savage and Ryan Schultz.

The final session of the meet is the 11-12 girls.
