DAMARISCOTTA — The Skidompha Secondhand Book Shop in downtown Damariscotta has opened in its new waterfront location. The new place is at 17 Backstreet Landing (behind Elm Street Plaza).
Rosie Bensen, co-manager of the shop, said, “We’re excited to welcome customers into our spacious new shop. We have a lot more room to display books, and we enjoy beautiful views of the river. It’s a cozy, comfortable and inviting place.”
The shop is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday except Thursdays, when it stays open until 7 p.m.
The book shop is a major source of income for Skidompha Public Library. All items are donated, all staff members are volunteers, and all proceeds go to the library.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
