ADDIE BROWNE, AmeriCorps Cooking Matters Coordinator with Good Shepherd Food Bank, and Darius Newman, Brunswick Area Teen Center member, at their weekly cooking class at the People Plus Center on 35 Union St. The six-week free course is part of the Cooking Matters program, which helps families to shop for and cook healthy meals on a budget, as part of Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry campaign. Six teens are currently taking the class where they learn nutrition and make a different recipe each week. The kids are then sent home with fresh ingredients to recreate the recipe at home. The Brunswick Area Teen Center had nearly 2,000 youth visits in 2016, with an average of 15 kids attending each afternoon. This free program is open Monday-Thursday, 2:30-5:30 p.m. during the school year and three days a week during the summer.
