Maine State Police said a pickup truck slammed into the rear of a turnpike plow truck at mile 16 in the northbound lanes of the  Maine Turnpike in Wells early Friday, killing the driver of the pickup truck. Maine Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland identified the man who died as Michael Sands, 48, of Waldoboro.
