BIDDEFORD — Starting Monday, Jan. 9, the Journal Tribune will no longer print a Monday edition, but will instead offer an enhanced Monday digital edition on its website, www.journaltribune.com.
Publisher Devin Hamilton said that the move is not a reflection of the newspaper’s business performance, but is intended to focus the publication on attracting a more digital mobile-oriented readership.
“As York County‘s only daily newspaper, the Journal Tribune isn’t going anywhere,” Hamilton said. “The sharp increase of online news through smartphones and social media has led to unprecedented demand for our digital content and led to this decision.”
Hamilton emphasized that the newspaper will continue to publish print editions Tuesday through Sunday.
He said that readers will be able to find Monday’s TV listings, comics and entertainment games and features in the Journal Tribune’s Saturday print edition.
“We believe that our subscribers will truly benefit from this new publication schedule,” Hamilton said. “It will allow our staff to deliver meaningful original content digitally and create a product worthy for all of our loyal readers.”

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
