WELLS — The name of this year’s theme for the Wells Christmas Parade says it all, “Christmas Fun for Everyone.”

The 31st annual parade will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday. It begins at Wells Plaza and heads down Old Post Road. It’s nearly a mile and a half from from beginning to the end at Wells Junior High.

The parade route as well as Chapel Road between Route 9 and U.S. Route 1 will be closed from 1:30 p.m. until the end of the parade.

“It’s something the chamber does for the community at Christmas and everyone loves it,” Wells Chamber of Commerce President / CEO Eleanor Vadenais said.

Vadenais said there are 55-60 groups scheduled to appear in the parade. One group that’s always popular is a group of young unicyclists called The Gym Dandies.

“They come back year after year. They’re terrific,” Vadenais said.

There will also be scout groups, the local fire department and school marching bands. Also of note will be the Wells Warriors football team with the Gold Ball trophy, which the team recently received for being Class C state champions, an honor they last received in 2011.

“It’s always a spectacular Macy’s-type cousin parade. There’s something for everyone,” said Town Manager Jonathan Carter. “There are no Broadway plays but there are marching bands and lots more. It’s really spectacular.”
