SANFORD — Mort Mather of Wells will be reading excerpts from his new novel, A Stone’s Throw: Orvie’s Stories, at Goodall Memorial Library in downtown Sanford ta 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1.
This first novel is a collection of stories about a young boy, Orvie, who tells about life as he sees it growing up in the 1940’s.
Mather has been writing for more than 40 years; a weekly column appearing in the York County Coast Star for 26 years and two other Maine papers, four years for Mother Earth News, other national magazines.
He is also the author of How to Improve Your Life and Save the World and Gardening for Independence. He has written many essays on philosophy and organic agriculture.
He works as a consultant to non-profit environmental groups. Mather founded Laudholm Trust and the Ogunquit Playhouse Foundation and was named “Environmentalist of the Year” by Down East magazine in 1987.
