Sharing Memories
God has blessed us with memory both to keep us safe and alert, and to give us comfort as the years pass by. People are drawn together by memories. Just let someone say, “Do you remember when—? “and the conversation becomes alive. What is it about sharing memories of past experiences that gives us such pleasure? Reminiscing about past events helps us to maintain our individual and shared identities. It gives us a feeling of belonging and well-being. The strains of an old familiar tune, a certain aroma, or a favorite poem can transport us back to a time when life was tender and sweet. Something may come up that reminds us of a deceased friend or loved one, and we feel truly blessed. Memories may be good or bad but they are all part of who we are. We recall our past mistakes and are reminded of our need to forgive ourselves and others. We are part of history. We recall how things used to be, how the world was arranged, and who the leaders were. The good old days, so to speak, may not have been any better, but they are what has shaped us and made us who we are today. So let us thank God for the gift of memory.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
