For this weekend only at the Poe Theater, Heartwood Theater and Lincoln Academy present the drama “These Shining Lives,” by Melanie Marnich.
The play revolves around four young women who went to work in a watch factory in the 1920s, painting watch dials with deadly glow-in-the-dark radium. It’s a story of survival as each woman refuses to allow the company that stole their health to steal their spirits — or endanger the lives of working women to follow.
Performances are scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with a single 3 p.m. matinee Sunday in the Poe Theater, at Lincoln Academy. Student tickets are $5 and adults are $15.
Reservations are encouraged by emailing Heartwood at info@heartwoodtheater.org or by calling (207) 563-1373. Do not call Lincoln Academy for tickets. Seating is unreserved, unless specifically requested in advance. For more information visit heartwoodtheater.org.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
