SPRINGVALE — Residents of Atria Kennebunk recently took a trip to McDougal Orchards in Springvale. According to residents, the orchard was friendly, easily accessible, and full of color, tasty treats and personality.

McDougal Orchards is a seventh-generation family farm in southern Maine located a mile from downtown Sanford. The orchard features fresh cider donuts out in the Donut Shack as well as miles of walking trails, farm animals, a picnic area, a corn maze and a fairy village where visitors can build a woodland house. The orchard also offers its grounds as a wedding venue, and provides a unique spot for photography sessions.

“For 225 years, each generation of the Hanson/McDougal family has done its part in keeping their farm going,” said Bob McDougal. “Today, thanks to the efforts of our daughter Ellen, our son, and many public agency partners, we’re granting an agricultural conservation easement on our farm. We are doing this to slow sprawl and protect farmland to make good land available for future farmers in York County.”
