AREA HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUPS

The Brunswick High School boys soccer team picked up its first win with a 7-0 Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference victory over Oxford Hills on Thursday.

Thomas Madigan gave the Dragons ( 1- 2- 2) a 1- 0 lead in the 10th minute off a pass from Emmet Taub.

Brunswick exploded for six goals in the second half. Carlyle Boyle picked up three goals and an assist, Noah Greene and two goals and Henry Doherty scored on a header from Kian Murray. Sawyer Nicholson, Aiden Glover, Chris Roderick and Taub added an assist each.

Dragon netminder Jared Hummer had 10 saves in the shutout, while Oxford Hills keeper Wyatt Ryder turned aside 16 shots.

Brunswick visits defending State Class A champion Lewiston on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Brendan Emmons led the way on offense for the Bobcats, which moved to 4-0 with the Class D South win.

Emmons scored the game’s first goal in the 10th minute before assisting Ford Strout on a second goal in the 55th minute. Nate Kendrick found Brady Johnson for a score with under three minutes remaining to seal the deal for Richmond.

Searsport goalkeeper Ben Powell made 19 saves, while Zach Small blocked five for the Bobcats.

Richmond will visit Valley today at 4 p.m.

Ethan James netted his second goal of the game in overtime to give Wiscasset a Mountain Valley Conference victory over Telstar.

Brandon Goud gave the Wolverines a 1- 0 advantage before Hakan Chartier tied the contest for Telstar. Avry Griffin also tallied for the Rebels.

Conlon Ranta made 10 saves for Wiscasset (3-2), while Boston Ludden turned aside 11 shots between the posts for Telstar.

The Wolverines head to Mountain Valley this upcoming Thursday at 4 p.m.

The Falcons came up short in a Western Maine Conference clash.

Freeport fell to 2-1 and hosts Wells on Saturday at 9:30 a.m.

Brendan Whitten staked the Rams (3-1-1) to a 2-0 first-half lead with a pair of tallies.

Eriksen Shea scored late in the first half to get Freeport on the board.

In goal, Wil Kenneway had six saves for Kennebunk, while Joe Burke turned aside eight shots.

The Shipbuilders tallied three goals in a 35- second span en route to a KVAC win at Belfast.

Morse, 2-2 and slated to visit Spruce Mountain on Saturday at 11 a. m., jumped ahead 3-0 just 3:55 into the contest. Tucker Banger scored on a pass from Lucas Brown ( two assists), and just 11 seconds later, Banger scored again.

Connor Bennoch quickly made it 3-0 on a penalty kick, and Declan Hall followed suit on a PK for a 4- 0 Shipbuilder advantage at the half.

Belfast scored its goal early in the second half, but Dakota Freeman and Sheamus Mann (assisted by Asa Hodgdon) completed the scoring for Morse.

Girls soccer

RICHMOND — Emily Snowden’s goal just 3: 45 into the game provided the Richmond soccer team a good start en route to a 5-1 Class D South win over Searsport on Thursday.

Meranda Martin and Destiny Anair followed with a goal each over a 1:23 span for a 3-0 Bobcats ( 4- 0) lead. Both Martin and Anair added a second goal each.

Snowden, Caitlin Kendrick and Camryn Hurley chipped an assist each, while goaltender Sydney Tilton had two saves in the win.

Kerrigan Coffin scored the lone goal for Searsport ( 2- 2), with netminder Brooklyn Albert making 15 stops.

Richmond travels to take on Valley today at 4 p.m.

Haley Fletcher broke a school record for career goals with her hat trick Thursday as Monmouth out-gunned Lisbon in MVC action.

Fletcher’s third goal was the 72nd of her career, breaking the old school record of 71 set by Kylie Kemp between 2010 and 2013. Audrey Fletcher and Jordyn Gowell also tallied for the unbeaten Mustangs ( 6- 0) to complete the scoring.

Katie Harris and Destiny Clough combined to record five saves for Monmouth, while Ali Sult deflected 13 shots for the Greyhounds (3-1-1).

Lisbon hosts Wiscasset on Monday at 3:30 p.m.

Kira Wolpow picked up a hat trick as the visiting Dragons improved to 4- 1 in a KVAC contest at South Paris.

Lea Scrapchansky, Maeve Arthur and Emily Larochelle chipped in a goal apiece for Brunswick, with assists going to Scrapchansky, Rian Sachs, Wolpow, Bailey Hartill and Aidan Sachs.

The Oxford Hills goal was scored by Cecilia Dieterich, assisted by Laurin Merrill.

Brunswick out-shot the Vikings 30- 20, with netminders Beth Labbe (Brunswick) and Krystin Payne each making 16 saves.

“We started really well and took our early chances well to get up to a 5- 0 early lead,” said Brunswick coach Martyn Davison, whose Dragons host Lewiston on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.

Emily Martin scored four times as the Shipbuilders opened their home schedule with a KVAC win over the Lions.

Martin scored at the 26- minute mark off an assist from Amanda Gagne. The Shipbuilders kept the pressure on, with Gagne again feeding Martin for a 2- 0 lead with three minutes remaining in the opening half.

Sierra Wallace, Aubrey Martin and Noa Sreden scored for Morse (3-1) in the second half, with Emily Martin adding two more tallies.

Morse held an 18-1 shot advantage, with Shipbuilder Marissa Parks turning aside one shot. The defense of Kali Pierce, Mae Winglass, Emma Gould, Hope Faulkingham and Madison Nelson kept the Belfast offense at bay all night.

The Shipbuilders host Spruce Mountain on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Volleyball

AUGUSTA — Cony rallied in the first set and later completed the sweep, 25-21, 25-14, 25-17, over Brunswick.

The Dragons, who fell to 0-5 and play host to Falmouth on Tuesday at 6 p.m., received strong serving from Katharine Kunhardt.

“ Cony’s serving was consistent and quite strong and Brunswick’s passing was not at its best tonight,” said Brunswick coach Kaili Phillips. “ Brunswick was led by Margaret Dickinson with two service aces and two kills, along with Kunhardt with three assists and two aces.”

Phillips also praised the play of Victoria Stevens.

Field hockey

TOPSHAM — Magan Thomas Copland scored two goals to lead host Mt. Ararat to a 3- 2 victory over Bangor in KVAC play.

The win ended a five-game losing streak for the Eagles, who improved to 2-5 and visits Edward Little on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Wyley Fitzpatrick added a goal for Mt. Ararat , which received three saves from Katie Trebilcock.

Alyssa Cyr and Grace Perron had the goals for Bangor. Kahia Maheux made 11 saves on 14 shots.

Brunswick hung tough with Skowhegan before falling in KVAC play.

“This team continues to push their limits in games, and yesterday was no exception,” said Brunswick coach Karin Paquin of her 2- 4 Dragons, who host Oxford Hills on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Brunswick goaltender Ainsley Narrower had 17 saves in the first half. She picked up another four stops in the second half before Libby Felkay relieved and made eight stops.

Alexis Michonski and Julia Steeves scored for Skowhegan in the first half, with second- half goals coming from Maliea Kelso, Elizabeth York and two more from Steeves.
