Mark your calendars and join Curtis Friends, Sisters in Crime and Maine Crime Writers for an evening with Ron Chase as the groups launch the 2016 Mystery Author Series. The series kick-off takes place Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. in the Morrell Meeting Room at Curtis Memorial Library. Free refreshments will be provided by the Bohemian Coffee House, and Gulf of Maine will have copies of Chase’s books for sale.

The 2016 Mystery Author Series runs through Oct. 18 and consists of the following events:

Ron Chase on Sept. 13

Topsham freelance writer Ron Chase was fascinated by the true story of Bernard Patterson’s daring 1971 robbery of the Northern National Bank in Mars Hill, Maine. Chase’s book is “The Great Mars Hill Bank Robbery,” the story of Patterson’s adventure filled controversial life that led him across the United States, then to Europe and North Africa.

Maureen Milliken on Sept. 20

Maureen Milliken, the author of the Bernie O’Dea mystery series. In her debut mystery novel “Cold Hard News,” as spring thaw finally arrives in her small Maine town of Redimere, the town’s secrets begin to emerge. Bernie O’Dea, the editor of the Peaks Weekly Watcher, is pleased to finally have a big story to cover when a body is found in a melting snowbank. But as the season turns into a long, explosive summer, the story gets bigger – maybe too big for Bernie to handle.

Amy Ray on Oct. 4

After years of running her own business – an old-fashioned five and dime store — Amy Ray was ready to let her imagination soar. The result was her mystery/ thriller, “ Dangerous Denial.” In this new noir novel, denying the past proves dangerous for BK Hartshaw and Trevor Mayhew. BK is a rising star at a public relations firm and a charity ball should be a high point in her career. But a closely guarded secret threatens to destroy her chance for happiness with the only man she’s ever loved.

Chris Holm on Oct. 18

Portland resident Chris Holm is the author of the Michael Hendricks thrillers. When a viral video of a terrorist attack in San Francisco reveals that a federal witness long thought dead is still alive, the organization he’d agreed to testify against will stop at nothing to put him in the ground. Special Agent Charlie Thompson is determined to protect him, but her hands are tied; the FBI’s sole priority is catching the terrorists before they strike again. So Charlie calls the only person on the planet who can keep her witness safe: Michael Hendricks.
