FREEPORT — Pauline Karen Mills, M.D., recently joined the staff of Freeport Pediatrics, a Central Maine Medical Group practice.

A graduate of both the University of Edinburgh and the University of Nevada, Mills most recently lived in Mesa, Arizona, before moving to Maine.

Prior to entering the medical field, she worked as a lifeguard in Perth, a gymnastics coach in Edinburgh, and a teacher of physical education in Dundee, all in Scotland.

Mills attended high school at Harris Academy in Dundee, Scotland, before receiving a bachelor’s degree in education at Moray House College of Education, now part of the University of Edinburgh. After moving to the United States, she attended the University of Nevada, in Reno, where she took a bachelor’s degree in biology. Mills earned her medical degree at the University of Nevada School of Medicine, also in Reno.

She completed an internship in internal medicine at New York Medical College in Staten Island, New York, and successfully completed a pediatric residency at the same institution.

Most recently, Mills has worked as a pediatric physician on the medical staff of Banner Health, located in Phoenix, before which she served as a pediatric physician on staff at Porter Hospital in Middlebury, Vermont.

Her clinical interests include child and adolescent psychiatry, travel medicine, LGBT youth, and general pediatric and adolescent medicine. Mills is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics. Since 2011, she has been a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She is a member of the American Medical Association. In addition, Mills is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Section on LGBT Health and Wellness.
