Popsicles with principal
All Windham Primary School families are invited to join the principal and staff for popsicles and playing on the A-House playground by the cafeteria on Thursday, Aug. 25, from 5:30-7 p.m. The rain date will be Aug. 26. Call the school office at 892-1840 or email mvance@rsu14.org with any questions. Enter by the road closest to the high school tennis courts, which used to be a one-way road and is now a two-way road.
Vets’ cruise deadline looms
A Vietnam War 50th Anniversary Fall celebration is being hosted by Field Allen American Legion Post. The second celebration this year is an evening boat cruise on Little Sebago Lake on Saturday, Sept. 10, starting at 3 p.m. to approximately 10 p.m. Sodas and snacks will be provided. The meeting/pickup location, unless otherwise specified, will be at the Little Sebago boat launch. The cruise is for all veterans and spouses who would like to attend. Toby Pennels Blood Drive
The annual Toby Pennels Red Cross Blood Drive will be held at the Windham Veterans Center from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7. Sponsors include the American Legion Field Allen Post 138, VFW Post 10643, Windham Veterans Association and Coldwell-Bankers Real Estate. Contact the Red Cross for an appointment, 1-800-RED-CROSS.
Flags around town
Just after Labor Day, the flags that have graced the town’s highways and byways, for the last 11 consecutive years will be coming down for the season. In the coming week, members of Field-Allen Post 148 will be contacting local businesses and citizens requesting support for the Flag Program. Much of the hardware used – poles and brackets – needs to be replaced. A donation of $25 will purchase a new bracket and flag pole. Donations may be made to: Field-Allen Post 148 Flag Fund, P.O. Carnival for readers
On Thursday, Aug. 25, from 1-3 p.m., the “On Your Mark, Get Set, READ! Carnival” will be held to wrap up the Summer Reading Programs with fun games and activities on the back lawn if it’s nice day, in the meeting room if it rains. Contact the Children’s Room for more information: 892-1908.

History program
On Monday, Aug. 22, Windham Historical Society will have a special program showing a collection of early 1900s scenes of North Gorham, White Rock and Windham. It will be narrated by Warren Gilman, a longtime historian and collector of historical information whose father, Bert, originally had glass slides of the subject area. The suggested donation is $5. Refreshments and DVDs of the program will be available. Proceeds of the sale of DVDs will benefit the North Gorham United Church of Christ. For more information call 650-7484.
Annual meeting notice
Windham Veterans Association annual membership meeting and election will be held Monday, Sept. 19, at 5 p.m. This is the 30-day notification required. The meeting is open to all Post 148 and Post 10643 members as well as new WVA members.
