The heat has been on! As you may know, I love the hot weather, so it can’t be too hot for me. Now if I lived in Florida, that might be a different story, but we are fortunate in Maine that the heat is bearable. I do hope it cools down just a tad once the kids go back to school in a couple of weeks if you can believe that.
Lobster roll and Gospel Band
On Saturday, Aug. 20, the United Methodist Church is stepping up the Summer Concert series by offering a Lobster/Chicken Salad Roll Dinner, which begins at 4:30 p.m. and includes chips and a beverage. Cost for the dinner is $10 for adults and $7 for kids. The show begins at 6:30 p.m. with a concert by the Greatest Gift Gospel Band. If you missed this group the first time, you will not want to miss them this time. The Greatest Gift Gospel Band won first place for Gospel Music Group of the Year and first and second place for Gospel Songwriting at the Pine Tree State Country Music Competition.
The race is on
Now is the time to sign up for the Naples Causeway 5K to be held on Sunday, Aug. 28. The race or walk is fun for all ages and supports the Dempsey Cancer Center and our local Food Pantry. Sign up by visiting runsignup.com. George Vooris does a great job putting this on! There are prizes, too. Don’t miss it.
Senior trip
The Casco Naples Recreation Department is planning a trip to the Sea Dog Brewing Company for lunch, followed by the show, “Mamma Mia” at the Maine State Music Theatre on Tuesday, Aug. 23. Lunch at the Brewing Company includes Mediterranean steak and artichoke salad, chicken and broccoli Alfredo, and fish and chips. Cheesecake is also part of the deal. The bus will leave the Plummer Field Complex on Route 11 at 10 a.m., returning around 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $77 for residents and $107 for non-residents. Community Theatre presents …
Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka is being performed this weekend. The play opened to delighted audiences last week, and, luckily, is playing one more weekend. Shows are Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 and a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door or at the Naples Public Library for $16 for adults and $12 for students.
