MORE THAN 18,000 MEALS are delivered each year by the Spectrum Generations meals on wheels team housed at the People Plus center on Union Street in Brunswick. Designed to provide nutritious, well-balanced meals several times a week, the Meals on Wheels gang consists of volunteer drivers who pick up their allotted meals and prepackaged food and make their runs every Wednesday and Friday. Getting to know the recipients is a benefit of the job, according to Meals on Wheels director Casey Henson: “Having the visit from the driver is almost as important as the meals themselves since all of the recipients are homebound. Their weekly driver visits are often the only people they see in a week.” Spectrum Generations also provides free counseling sessions on aging and disability resources at the People Plus Center. For more information on either of these programs, contact People Plus at ( 207) 729- 0757, peopleplusmaine.org or SpectrumGenerations.org.
