NEW YORK

Jay Bruce launched a three-run homer for his first hit since being traded, Bartolo Colon took a shutout into the seventh inning and the New York Mets beat the Yankees 4-1 on Thursday night for a split of the Subway Series.

After each team won once at Citi Field earlier this week, the Mets took the wrapup of the two-game set at Yankee Stadium.

Bruce had been 0 for 10 since being acquired from Cincinnati on Monday before his drive into the Yankees’ bullpen in right-center field made it 4-0 in the fifth inning against Nathan Eovaldi (9-8).

Kelly Johnson also led off with a homer in the inning.

Bruce’s 26th homer gave him the NL RBIs lead with 83, ended an 0-for-19 rut overall and made him 5-for- 56 against the Yankees. He cracked a smile on the way back to the dugout, where Colon and his new teammates greeted him with hearty high-fives.

Colon (10-6) gave up six hits in 6 2/3 innings in earning his 228th victory, most among active pitchers. The 43-year-old righty, who spent 2011 with the Yankees, became the first pitcher to win a Subway Series game for each New York team, the Elias Sports Bureau said.

Jeurys Familia worked around a pair of one-out singles for his 38th save in 40 chances.

Giants 3, Phillies 2

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Denard Span homered leading off the 10th inning, and San Francisco Philadelphia Phillies for just its fifth victory in 14 games since the All-Star break.

Matt Moore made his first start for the NL West leader following his acquisition Monday from Tampa Bay. He allowed two runs and three hits in six innings and walked six — matching his career high.

Span led off the 10th by sending a 95 mph fastball from Severino Gonzalez (0-2) just inside the right-field foul pole, his third hit of the game. San Francisco lost the first two games of the series.

Sergio Romo (1-0) earned the win without getting an out. Cesar Hernandez was caught stealing for the final out of the ninth while Romo was facing his first batter.

Dodgers 4, Rockies 2

DENVER (AP) — Kenta Maeda allowed two runs over 5 2/3 innings, rookie Corey Seager tied a Dodgers record for shortstops with his 19th home run and Los Angeles beat Colorado to avoid a three-game sweep.

Maeda (10-7) gave up four hits and struck out five for the Dodgers, who lead the NL wild-card race. Maeda, who walked none and hit two batters, has allowed three runs in 18 2/3 innings against the Rockies, with 22 strikeouts and two walks.

Rangers 5, Orioles 3

BALTIMORE (AP) — Jonathan Lucroy hit his first homer with Texas, Ian Desmond drove in two runs and the Rangers beat Wade Miley and Baltimore to avoid a three-game sweep.

Texas received contributions from all three players it acquired before Monday’s non-waiver trade deadline. Lucroy homered in the second inning, Carlos Beltran singled in a run in the fifth and Jeremy Jeffress pitched a scoreless seventh.

Shin-Soo Choo came off the disabled list to get two hits and scored a run for the Rangers, who took back from Baltimore the distinction of owning the best record in the AL.

Reds 7, Cardinals 0

CINCINNATI (AP) — Brandon Phillips had three hits and left-hander Brandon Finnegan limited St. Louis to two hits in six innings, leading Cincinnati to a rare series win over the Cardinals.

Cincinnati took two of three, giving it its fifth series win in the last 23 between the NL Central clubs. The Reds have won six straight series after the All- Star break for the first time since 1999.

Indians 9, Twins 2

CLEVELAND (AP) — Carlos Santana hit a three-run homer, Francisco Lindor added a two-run shot and Cleveland salvaged the finale of a four-game series with Minnesota.

The AL Central-leading Indians were outscored 35-16 by the last-place Twins in the first three games. Cleveland is 5-8 against Minnesota and 26-8 against the rest of the division.

White Sox 6, Tigers 3

DETROIT (AP) — Jose Abreu and Avisail Garcia homered in a five-run second inning, and Chicago chased Jordan Zimmermann in his return from the disabled list, snapping Detroit’s eight-game winning streak.

Zimmermann (9-5) allowed six runs and six hits in 1 2/3 innings, failing to strike out a batter in his first outing since June 30. He had been out with a right neck strain.

A’s 8, Angels 6

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Yonder Alonso hit a tiebreaking RBI double in the 10th inning and Oakland beat Los Angeles to avoid a three-game sweep and snap a five-game losing streak.

Braves 5, Pirates 2

ATLANTA (AP) — Adonis Garcia scored from second on an improbable stolen base attempt in the seventh inning and Atlanta beat Pittsburgh despite Ryan Vogelsong’s strong start.

Vogelsong allowed only one run in six innings his first start in more than two months. He left with the game tied 1-1.

Blue Jays 4, Astros 1

HOUSTON (AP) — J.A. Happ won his ninth consecutive decision, Edwin Encarnacion reached 30 home runs for the fifth straight season and Toronto beat Houston for its eighth victory in 11 games.

Happ (15-3), who already has set his career high for wins, retired 12 of his first 13 batters and allowed one run and four hits in six innings. He’s 9-0 with a 2.49 ERA in 10 starts since losing at Detroit on June 6. Roberto Osuna pitched the ninth for his 24th save.

Rays 3, Royals 2

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Brad Miller hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning to help Tampa Bay beat Kansas City for a series split.

Miller hit his 19th homer.
