BRUNSWICK

Though they had been open to the public for three weeks, a ribbon cutting ceremony on June 21 marked Fiore’s official welcome to downtown Brunswick. For co-owners Pat and Nancy O’Brien, that welcome feeling extends all the way back to January when they learned of a property opening on Maine Street.

FIORE CO-OWNERS Pat and Nancy O’Brien are shown at the Brunswick store’s grand opening. “We can tell this is an open community,” said Pat O’Brien. “We are blessed to be surrounded by such great people.”

“Our Freeport location was under construction, so we started looking for property elsewhere,” said Pat O’Brien during the Brunswick ceremony, which garnered a crowd of around 30 people. “Our banker, Larissa Darcy (of Bar Harbor Bank and Trust), called us up in January and told us a prime location had opened up in Brunswick. We jumped at the opportunity and the rest is history.”

“The community really wanted them here,” said Darcy, who attended the grand opening. “They are a great addition to the neighborhood.”

With stores in Bar Harbor, Rockland and Freeport, Brunswick was the obvious choice in Fiore’s quest to provide the best quality olive oil and vinegar to thriving coastal Maine communities.

‘We get involved’

“We get involved and we collaborate,” said Pat O’Brien. “Our time in Brunswick has shown us that the city reciprocates that notion. The Brunswick Downtown Association has been hugely supportive. They introduced us to other businesses around town, and we feel like part of the family now.”

How close is Fiore to working with other businesses?

“Portland Pie bakes us bread for use in our tastings,” Pat O’Brien said. “We return the favor by supplying them with olive oil and vinegar for cooking and salad dressing. It’s the perfect system.”

Tastings are free of charge, and the O’Briens encourage customers to try everything.

“If you taste all of the oils, you’re not going to buy something you don’t like,” Pat O’Brien said. “One hundred percent customer satisfaction.”

“We’ll show you around, and then it’s all about what your tastes are,” said Nancy O’Brien. “It’s all about the product you want. Tell us what you like and we’ll lead you there.”

Finding the perfect olive oil is easier when immersed in the right environment. With its high, artisan tin ceilings and polished wood floors, the style of the new store suggests a throwback to older times.

“This location (in Brunswick) gives you a sense of grandeur, of history,” said Cat Anderson, who is the store manager in Freeport. “It’s beautiful and we’re thrilled to extend the Fiore family to Brunswick.”

With the summer season now in full swing, the future looks bright for the O’Briens. But they insist they couldn’t have done this without the great people of Brunswick pitching in.

“We can tell this is an open community,” said Pat O’Brien. “We are blessed to be surrounded by such great people.”
