Richard William Hyde, 83, of Topsham passed away on Wednesday , May 25th at home after a long illness.

He was born in 1932 to John H. Hyde and Sara J. Moore Hyde in Topsham. He attended Topsham Public Schools. Richard spent his youth enjoying the outside, games, and pulling pranks with his cousins and siblings. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.

Richard married Carol E. Bibber of Harpswell in 1958. He worked at the Coleman Research Farm until 1959 and then with the Pejepscot Paper Company until their closing in 1987. Richard next worked for Fortin Fuel/Brunswick Coal & Lumber until he retired in 1997.

Richard was a member of the Sagadahoc Agricultural and Horticultural Society. He was a member and served as Treasurer of the Brunswick Church of Christ for over 30 years. He loved camping with his family, Bluegrass music, building things in his wood shop and enjoying the Maine County Fairs.

He was predeceased by his parents, a brother John Hyde Jr, and sisters June Sherman and Shirley Hyde. He is survived by his wife Carol Hyde of Topsham, a brother Robert Hyde of Bowdoin, daughter Deborah and husband Charles Owen of Topsham, son Mark and wife Josie Hyde of Eddington, and daughter Lisa and husband Mike Sullivan of Durham. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren Nicole , Alan, Amanda, Craig, Joel, Minda and 5 great grandchildren.

A memorial Service will be held at the Brunswick Church of Christ 1 Jordan Ave, Sunday, May 29 at 2 pm.
