LEWISTON — Northeast Bank, which has a branch office on Brunswick’s Maine Street, recently donated $5,000 to The Opportunity Alliance.
The funds will provide family literacy classes to the Parkside Neighborhood Center in Portland, as well as bolster the Work-Life Advisor Program, which aims to help individuals overcome barriers to employment.
“Family literacy education and small business mentoring are critical building blocks for a strong community,” said Jeanne Hulit, president of the Community Banking Division. “We are proud to partner with The Opportunity Alliance in their efforts to help local families and businesses.”

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
