BINGHAMTON, N.Y.
Binghamton’s Dominic Smith snapped a 2-2 tie with a two-out RBI single in the eighth inning, leading the Mets (8-9) to a 3-2 Eastern League victory over the Portland Sea Dogs (6-14) on Tuesday night at Hadlock Field.
Portland has lost six straight games and its last seven on the road.
Akeel Morris (1-1) retired all five batters to earn his first win. Binghamton starter Andrew Barbosa dominated Portland over 7 1/3 innings, fanning 10 batters and giving up just three hits.
Teddy Stankiewicz tossed his fourth consecutive quality for Portland, giving up two runs (one earned) over six innings.
The Mets took a 1-0 lead in the third on a throwing error by first baseman Tim Roberson.
Portland gained the lead in the sixth off Barbosa. Jordan Betts led off the frame with a walk and Jose Vinicio had a bunt single. With two outs, Bryce Brentz nailed a two-run double.
The series conclude tonight.
