SANFORD — Sanford standout Jen Jones racked up 15 strikeouts to lead the Spartans to a 7-1 win over visiting Portland on Thursday.
Jones, who also added a double and one RBI at the plate, didn’t allow an earned run and held the Bulldogs to just four hits and no walks in seven innings of work.
Sanford, which scored five runs in the first inning, got three hits and one RBI from Isabelle Johnston and Marli Wilson and Lauren Thompson had two hits each in the win.
The Spartans would also get hits from Nicole Main, Jordan Wilson, Morgan Coleman and Abby Blouin.
Sanford (1-0) will visit Scarborough on Monday.
