PORTLAND — The Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse boys hockey team controlled play against the Red Riots of South Portland/Freeport/ Waynflete throughout Thursday’s contest at Troubh Ice Arena on Thursday.
However, the Red Riots managed a 3-3 deadlock with the Eagles.
Down 3-2 late, Noah Austin snapped a shot past Red Riots goaltender Joe Grant to tie the game with 1:34 remaining in regulation. Mark Abreu assisted on Austin’s game-tying goal, while Jason Magno and Cam Grant also scored for the Eagles (7-5-1), who host Westbrook/
Windham on Saturday at Sidney J. Watson Arena at 6:30 p.m. Picking up assists were Bradley Boulet and Nick Austin.
Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse goaltender Parker Lacey made 18 saves on 19 shots, including stopping Red Riots forward Caleb Rowland on a breakaway late in the third period.
Rowland scored South Portland/Freeport/Waynflete’s first goal, while Cam Gillies scored the other two. Max Winson and Atticus Patrick added assists for the Red Riots (4-8-2) and Grant was superb throughout, making 35 saves on 38 shots, including nine in overtime.
