BRUNSWICK — The Bowdoin College women’s basketball team rolled to its eighth consecutive victory in an 84- 44 win over Regis on Tuesday evening at Morrell Gymnasium.

The Polar Bears (9-2) are ranked 22nd in the latest D3Hoops.com national poll. Regis’ seven-game winning streak comes to an end as the Pride fall to 7-2 on the year.

Bowdoin never trailed, jumping out to a 7-0 lead in the opening minute thanks to four early points from Shannon Brady.

The Pride were able to stay within striking distance, closing the gap to 13- 8 after a Shannon Hayes jumper late in the first quarter. Bowdoin answered with a 10-2 run to end the period, capped by four straight points from Lauren Petit to carry a 23-10 lead into the second quarter.

The Polar Bears led 36-20 at the half thanks to 20 points off Regis turnovers in the opening 20 minutes. Brady scored 12 of her game-high 25 points as Bowdoin put the game on ice in the third quarter. Bowdoin led by as many as 42 points in the second half en route to the win.

Brady was nearly unstoppable, hitting 10 of her first 12 shots and finishing 12-of-18 from the field for a gamehigh 25 points in just 21 minutes of play. She also added three blocked shots and five rebounds. Kate Kerrigan had 10 points, eight assists and four steals, while Lauren Petit notched 10 points and seven boards.

Abigail Kelly led the Bowdoin bench with 10 points as the Polar Bear reserves outscored Regis, 34-11.

The Pride was paced by 13 points from Amanda Hawkesworth and nine from Brittany Snow.

Bowdoin hosts Tufts in battle of nationally-ranked teams on Friday at 7 p.m.

Brady honored

Brady has been named the New England Women’s Basketball Association Player of the Week.

It is the second NEWBA/ PrestoSports weekly honor for Brady this season as the Polar Bear co-captain is amassing a phenomenal campaign.

In two wins over the holiday break, Brady averaged 18.5 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks.

Against MIT, she had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds with three blocks, then added 19 points with three more blocked shots in a conference win over Bates.

Through 10 games this season, Brady is averaging 16.5 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game.

Men’s basketball

Lucas Hausman scored a game-high 35 points to lead the Polar Bears to their fourth consecutive victory, 87-67, over Bridgewater State University on Tuesday evening at Morrell Gymnasium.

Bowdoin improved to 7-3, while the Bears fell to 3-8.

Tied at 11, a 9-0 run courtesy of three consecutive Hausman 3-pointers, gave Bowdoin the lead for good.

Bridgewater State closed to within six points on three occasions in the first half and made it an eight-point game at halftime, 40-32, thanks to a Rocky Deandrade running lay-up with 30 seconds remaining in the opening half. After Bridgewater’s Michael Soares cut the lead to six points again just one minute into the second half, Bowdoin replied with a 10-0 run, sparked by five points each from Hausman and Neil Fuller, to push the lead to 16 points, 50-34, with 16:40 to go.

Matt Palecki nailed a trey with 14:51 remaining to spark another 10-0 Polar Bear run that put the contest out of reach.

Hausman led all scorers, marking the fourth time he’s surpassed 30 points this season, including 4-of-5 from 3-point range. Palecki pitched in 14 points and nine rebounds for Bowdoin, while Jake Donnelly had a teambest seven assists.

Joseph Carty led three Bridgewater State players in double figures with 18 points to go with seven boards.

Women’s soccer

Bowdoin was one of eight schools across all divisions of intercollegiate competition to receive the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s Platinum Award for Team Ethics and Sportsmanship.

Brianne Weaver’s squad finished the 2015 season with zero red or yellow cards to achieve the exclusive honor, joining the women’s soccer teams from Columbia International University, Frostburg State University, Nazareth College, St. Lawrence University, SUNY Potsdam, St. John Fisher College, The College of Saint Rose and Wilson College.

The Polar Bears combined their high level of sportsmanship with a high level of play, as they finished another fantastic year with a record of 13-6-1. Bowdoin qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the fourth consecutive year and advanced to the second round with a dramatic 3-2 win over Johns Hopkins in the opening round of the championship before falling to Stevens, 4-1.
