BIDDEFORD — The building at 510 Alfred St., which formerly housed a Shaw’s supermarket, is slated to become retail or office space.

As of Nov. 10, there were no potential tenants for the 55,899-square-foot building, which was built in 1997. Its listing agent, The Boulos Company, is marketing it to retail and large-office users, according to Drew Sigfridson, managing director at the Portland-based company, which is an affiliate of CBRE, an international commercial real estate company.

“The proximity to I-95 and the facility (and) parking offer a great opportunity for a variety of uses,” Sigfridson said in a Nov. 10 email.

The roughly eight-acre property is less than a quarter mile from Exit 32 on the Maine Turnpike and within a mile of several other large retailers like Walmart, Home Depot and Target. Its parking lot has room for more than 300 vehicles, according to information on CBRE’s website.

According to city records, the property is owned by Biddeford Investment Associates and has been assessed at $5.7 million.

In June, Brian Dowling, a spokesman for Shaw’s, told the Journal Tribune that the grocery store, which had employed 90 people, would be closing after about 18 years in business. He cited “underperformance” as the reason for closure.

According to CBRE’s website, the property has been for lease since September.
