Three Bonny Eagle students were involved in a car accident on Turkey Lane in Buxton early Thursday morning with one of the students, identified by police as Angel Greene of Standish, fatally injured.

Buxton police had yet to identify a 19-year-old male, 17-year-old male and 16-year-old male who were also injured. The accident took place at 1:38 a.m. The occupants were transported to the hospital with “significant injuries,” according to Buxton police.

In a Thursday-morning email to the media and school community members, Frank Sherburne, Bonny Eagle superintendent, wrote:

“It is with sincere regret that I am notifying you that there has been a student death within the Bonny Eagle school community…As you can imagine, our thoughts and concerns are for the students and their families.”

Sherburne went on to write that a crisis team is offering support to students and staff “during this difficult time.”

According to the Bonny Eagle Times, the high’s school newspaper, a moment of silence in memory of Greene was observed Friday morning before the start of classes at the high school.

“Our hearts are heavy at the loss of Angel Greene, who had the same hopes and dreams of all our students,” the newspaper quoted Principal Paul Penna as saying.

It stated that students were expressing their thoughts about the crash and the tributes for Greene on the Bonny Eagle Strong Facebook page.
