PORTLAND — The Portland Sea Dogs have announced their 2016 schedule.
The Sea Dogs will open the season on the road on April 7 against the Reading Fightin’ Phils. The home opener is set for April 14 at 6 p.m. against the Hartford Yard Goats, formerly the New Britain Rock Cats.
Tickets for the 2016 season will go on sale on Nov. 7 at 9 a.m. at the Hadlock Field ticket office.
The 2016 season will be the Sea Dogs 23rd in Portland and 14th as a Boston Red Sox affiliate. The Eastern League season consists of 142 games (71 home and 71 away) against 11 opponents.
For the first time since 2007, the Sea Dogs will end the season on the road. It also marks the first time since 2002 that the Sea Dogs will both open the season on the road and finish the season on the road.
The 2016 season will feature just nine games at Hadlock Field in April. Most home games will fall during the warmer months, including 17 games in May, 15 in June, 14 in July and 16 home games in August.
Opponents highlighting the 2016 schedule include 10 home games against the Trenton Thunder, Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees. Additionally, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Toronto Blue Jays) will make three trips to Hadlock Field in 2016 for a total of 10 games. The Eastern League’s newest team, the Yard Goats, will make three trips to Hadlock for a total of 12 games.
Standard game times this year will remain the same. April and May weekday games will begin at 6 p.m., while weekend games will be at 1 p.m. In June, July and August weekday games will start at 7 p.m., Saturday’s at 6 p.m., and Sunday’s at 1 p.m. In addition, the Sea Dogs will host two Education Days with an 11 a.m. start time on May 5 and June 2. The Sea Dogs will also have three weekday games starting at noon — April 20, July 27 and August 4.
The schedule will feature five fireworks shows — May 27, June 23, July 3, July 23 and August 24. The annual Field of Dreams/Fan Appreciation Day is set for August 27. A complete promotional schedule will be announced at a later date including bobblehead doll giveaways, appearances by traveling acts such as the ZOOperstars, celebrity appearances, theme nights and more.
