Windham police are reconstructing a motorcycle accident that took the life of Kevin Coppersmith, 24, of Gorham, Tuesday night.

The accident took place at the intersection of Ward Road and Windham Center Road at 11:40 p.m. According to a press release, Windham police officers observed the motorcycle traveling east on Route 302 at a high rate of speed and attempted to catch up with the operator to initiate a traffic stop. The accident occurred before the officers reached Coppersmith, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

An accident reconstruction team is investigating the incident but police say high speed was a contributing factor. Police are still determining whether alcohol played a role.
