
The Polar Bears jumped on top on a Connor Keefe goal just 4:04 into the game on an assist from Andrew Jones.
Bowdoin (1-0) made it a 2-0 contest in the 18th minute as Jones deposited a high leftfooted shot from the top of the box just under the crossbar.
The visitors carried that 2-0 advantage into intermission after leading 10-3 in shots over the first 45 minutes.
The second half began with a goal from Moctar Niang off a corner kick, and Jones’ second marker less than three minutes later made it a 4-0 contest.
Bowdoin closed out the scoring on goals by Cedric Charlier, Riley Bubb and Nick DiStefano (penalty kick).
Stevie Van Siclen had one save in 82 minutes. Kyle Gurtowski played the rest of the way with no saves.
Elijah Leverett had four saves for UNE (1-2).
Bowdoin visits Amherst on Saturday.
Women’s volleyball
The Polar Bears made head coach Erin Cady a winner in her coaching debut at Bowdoin with a 3-0 road win over UNE.
Bowdoin posted set wins of 25-12, 25-13 and 25-14 to start the season 1-0. UNE dropped to 1-2.
Senior Christy Jewett had 12 kills and 13 digs to pace the Polar Bears, who head to the MIT Invitational this weekend. Michelle Albright added seven kills, while Erika Sklaver had five.
