TOPSHAM
Topsham’s town clerk has announced there is an additional vacancy on the School Administrative District 75 following the resignation Sept. 1 of board member Scott McKernan.
According to Superintendent Brad Smith, McKernan resigned because he has accepted a position in California. McKernan has served on the board since 2007.
Linda Dumont, the town clerk, announced the vacancy Friday for an unexpired term of two years and the shortening of the nomination process from 30 to 18 days.
Nomination papers were available for the vacant two-year seat Friday in the town clerk’s office for the Nov. 3 election.
Nomination papers became available Aug. 6 for a full three-year seat on the SAD 75 school board as well as a three-year seat on the Board of Selectmen
Nominations papers for all three positions must be returned to the clerk’s office by 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 21, with the signatures of at least 25 but not more than 100 qualified registered voters of the town of Topsham.
SAD 75 covers the communities of Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, Harpswell and Topsham.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
