“New Beginnings,” the theme of a show opening Friday at Saltwater Gallery, represents different steps in the lives of each of the five artists whose work will be featured. The cooperative gallery, located at 3056 Bristol Road in New Harbor, invites the public to visit its seven rooms of painting, photography and fine craft. Profiles and work of the 27-member artists can be seen on line at www.saltwaterartists.com. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

Erik Minzner of Newcastle is new to Saltwater this year, bringing his experience in plein air work to the gallery, having won awards in plein air events along the east coast. Minzner works in oil, pastel, watercolor and does both wood and lino cut block prints as well.

Barbara Egbert’s watercolor paintings continue to offer local scenes for her collectors as she challenges herself to capture new subjects to delight the visitors to the gallery. A resident of New Harbor, she finds herself surrounded by the color and light on the peninsula and shows her work at Saltwater and other venues in the state.

Watercolor and calligraphy are the combination offered by Rutherford Island artist Maude Olsen, one of the original founders of Saltwater gallery. She spent last winter working on her poetry and this season has offered new works combining her poetry into her work. Olsen is a Life-Fellow of the American Artists Professional League and a juried member of the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club. Olsen was on the faculty of the Farnsworth Art Museum for 22 years and continues to teach drawing, calligraphy and watercolor in the Midcoast area.

Scott White of Chamberlain is in his first year at Saltwater and brings to the gallery his colorful paintings, striving to push past reality to create more liveliness in his art. White’s favorite subject is the seacoast of Maine and his paintings of dockside activity including the visiting seagulls have been a particular favorite of Saltwater collectors.

Painter Midge Coleman of Sheepscot has shown her work in six states on the east coast, meeting her collectors and sharing with them her approach and painting technique. A winner of multiple awards in three mediums, she continues to study with the best of America’s landscape painters, knowing that only through continued study and work can one reach their best potential.
