GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.

Nelson, one of the top targets for NFL MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers, was injured Sunday in a preseason loss at Pittsburgh. The team said Monday only that he suffered a “significant right knee injury” that would cost him the season.

Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy said the team had hoped for good news in a reevaluation of Nelson’s injury. Instead, the Packers will be without a playmaker who set career highs in receptions (98) and yards receiving (1,519) in 2014.

Cowboys

OXNARD, Calif. (AP) — Dallas cornerback Orlando Scandrick left practice at training camp with what he told his secondary coach he believed was a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

Scandrick went down working against rookie receiver Lucky Whitehead on Tuesday and was carted off the field. The Cowboys were awaiting results of an MRI.

Secondary coach Jerome Henderson said Scandrick told him, “It’s my ACL. I know it. It’s gone.”

The eighth-year player became the team’s best cornerback as Brandon Carr struggled in coverage and 2012 top-10 pick Morris Clai- borne couldn’t stay healthy.

Scandrick has played 102 games with 48 starts. He had a career-high two interceptions each of the past two seasons.

Titans

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — With a very short turnaround between preseason games, a handful of Titans got a break from practice Tuesday.

Coach Ken Whisenhunt also kept backup quarterback Zach Mettenberger and running back Dexter McCluster away from the team to prevent any illness from spreading to the other players.

A total of 12 Titans did not practice Tuesday. Kicker Ryan Succop’s wife gave birth to a son earlier in the day, and right guard Chance Warmack had an ingrown toenail on each foot removed.

Whisenhunt says Mettenberger was sick with what is believed to be food poisoning, while McCluster has a virus. The Titans beat St. Louis 27-14 on Sunday night and visit Kansas City on Friday night.

The coach says the tight turnaround means they can’t afford other Titans being contaminated.

Steelers

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Steelers are meeting with free agent quarterback Michael Vick on Tuesday with an eye toward giving the former Pro Bowler a look as a backup behind Ben Roethlisberger.

The Steelers are in serious need of depth with second stringer Bruce Gradkowski dealing with an injured finger on his left hand and No. 3 Landry Jones still getting up to speed in his third season.

The 35-year-old Vick spent 2014 with the New York Jets, throwing for two touchdowns against the Steelers in an upset win on Nov. 9.

Roethlisberger said Vick would be welcomed in the locker room with open arms and that Vick’s past legal issues would not be a problem.

Also on Tuesday, the Steelers signed center Doug Legursky and put wide receiver David Nelson on injured reserve.

Bills

PITTSFORD, N.Y. (AP) — The high expectations running back Fred Jackson and the Bills had upon arriving at training camp a month ago haven’t lessened as the team prepares to head home.

Calling this the best team he’s been a part of, the eighth-year player said “without a doubt” that the Bills have a playoffs-or-bust mentality in a bid to end a 15-season playoff drought.

Jackson is buoyed by the top-to-bottom changes and additions the team has made since coach Rex Ryan took over in January. The Bills have since restocked their offense with the additions of running back LeSean McCoy, tight end Charles Clay and receiver Percy Harvin, while keeping most of their attacking defense intact.

Jackson spoke Tuesday, after the Bills held their final practice at camp in suburban Rochester.

Dolphins

DAVIE, Fla. (AP) — Miami Dolphins left tackle Branden Albert has been cleared to practice wire to wire for the first time since being sidelined in Week 10 last season with a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee.

Albert declined to say how soon he expects to play in a game, but while he’s unlikely to suit up for Saturday’s exhibition game against Atlanta, he appears on schedule to make the season opener Sept. 13.

Albert wore a brace on his knee for Tuesday’s workout in pads and shorts. His return lends stability to a line that remains unsettled at both guard spots and is viewed as the weak link in a potentially potent offense.

An eighth-year veteran, Albert was perhaps the Dolphins’ best offensive player last season until he was hurt.
