After a 20-minute rain delay to begin the game, Trenton got off to a quick start. The Thunder scored one run in the first on a two-out, RBI single by Jake Cave, then followed up with another two-out run on an RBI single by Jose Rosario off of Sea Dogs starter Justin Haley (0-4).
A costly error by Marco Hernandez extended the second and allowed Trenton to score two more runs and make it 4-0 after two.
Miguel Sulbaran (3-1) cruised through the first five innings, allowing just two hits and throwing 52 pitches. After recording an out in the sixth, Carlos Asuaje singled and Jantzen Witte walked to put two Sea Dogs on base for the first time in the game. Oscar Tejeda drilled a two-run triple to the gap in right-center field to cut the Thunder lead in half.
Portland made it a 4-3 deficit when Keury De La Cruz drove in Tejeda.
The Thunder quickly reversed the Sea Dogs’ momentum in the top of the seventh.
After Kyle Kraus recorded two quick outs, Jake Cave and Mason Williams singled and Aaron Judge pulled a grounder down the third-base line for a two-out, two-run double to make it 6-3.
The series was set to conclude today at 11 a.m.
